Design
The design is very similar to the previous envy models. For people who are not familiar with it, it comes with a nice glossy front which screams premium. It has a nice finish and also well-placed ports in the back. You can find the ventilation in the sides of the cabinet.
The desktop weighs around 20 pounds so makes sure you don’t move it often. Overall it’s a very good design for a desktop and there is nothing to complain here.
Hardware
You don’t get a monitor here as this is a standalone PC. If you don’t have a monitor already, then we recommend you to take a look at our monitor section and find a suitable one.
The HP ENVY 700-515XT desktop is powered by an Intel core i7 4770 processor. This is a 4th gen, quad -core processor and is one of the best processors for a mid-range desktops. Yes, there are 5th gen chips in the market right now but the difference in performance is very little.
This processor can help you run simple apps like word processors, spreadsheet apps and even some high-end applications like Photoshop and Matlab. Even system intensive tasks can be done without any lag in the performance.
The memory department comes with a memory of 8GB DDR3 RAM. This is a decent memory for a mid range user. Not all of us will use the 8 gigs at the same time. With this memory, running multithreaded applications has become easier. It can also take your multitasking to the next level and improves your productivity.
Since this is a desktop, you can upgrade the RAM to up to 32GB if you want to. The processor is a capable one so any upgrade will surely improve the performance without a doubt.
The hard drive comes with a capacity of 1TB. This, here, is a drive with a speed of 7200RPM. This is better than the 5400RPM hard drive but not as good as the SSDs. HP could have included an SSD as it might have helped the performance a bit.
The operating system is Windows 7 64-bit version. People who are not fond of Windows 8 will absolutely love this. If you need the latest OS, then Windows 10 release is just around the corner. Reserve your free Windows and upgrade to it once it releases.
The graphics card here is a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 720 graphics card. This GPU comes with a memory of 2GB is supports gaming to a very good extent. You can play most of the recent games without any problem and yes, you can game with this desktop.
As far as connectivity is concerned, you get the essential ports in the form of USB ports. There is also a super multi DVD drive that will come in handy for reading and writing. There is also support for wireless connectivity as well apart from the regular Ethernet connectivity.
HP ENVY 700-515XT Review: Verdict
This is a mid range desktop computer. It can help you with your day to day activities and also give you the power you need for high-end work. At this price, this is a good offer to pass on. If you are looking for a decent mid-range desktop then this is a good option.
