The Toshiba Satellite S55-B5258 15.6-Inch Laptop is a featured packed mid-tier notebook. It boasts a striking design, nice lightweight and some serious computing power, making it a good contender for those who desire a notebook with style, portability and power, but don’t quite need the prowess of a high-end machine. For starters, this laptop features an incredibly elegant, slim-line chassis with a sleek brushed aluminium finish that really catches the eye. Its slim design contributes to its lightweight of 4.8 lbs so you can tote around town without it weighing you down.
Avid typists who spend long hours typing at the keyboard will really appreciate the TruType keyboard. Featuring contoured keys, 10-key numeric pad and a frameless design, you’re assured a comfortable typing experience with minimal key bounce. The keyboards LED backlight features customization options, allowing you to turn it off or set a timer to conserve battery power.
Like we said earlier, this notebook has some serious power that will suffice most home and business users who need to multitask. At the core it features a powerful Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor running at 2.5 Ghz, but can run up to 3.5 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. 8 GB DIMM RAM is installed, which is a good amount of memory to run Windows 8 and most modern software applications efficiently. Oodles of storage space are provided by the 1TB 5400 RPM hard drive. With 1000 GB space, you’re going to be hard pressed to fill up this HDD unless you’re heavily into video.
The 15.6-inch TruBrite® display gives you a good sized screen with vivid, rich colors to enjoy all content superbly whether you’re watching a Netflix movie or browsing your family photo gallery. There isn’t much to be said about the graphics, it has a Mobile Intel HD graphics which is standard these days for laptops in this bracket.
Toshiba have included excellent connectivity options with this laptop. On the left side there is a single USB 2.0 port plus a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port, providing a high speed network connection if you’re on a wired network. On the right side, there are two USB 3.0 ports for high speed data transfer, a headphone port plus a 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) HDMI® output which provides the benefits of ultra high detail resolution if you have a 4K TV. Wireless options include a high-speed 802.11ac wireless adapter and Bluetooth® v4.0 for quick connectivity of Bluetooth accessories.
Pros

- Nice keyboard with contoured keys and smooth typing action. It feels really good to type on.
Cons
- No DVDRW Drive. This is okay since Toshiba designed this notebook to be slim and easy to carry.
- Mobile Intel HD graphics. Hardcore gamers will need to look elsewhere.
