Design

The desktop borrows the design from the previous models in the XPS series. There is nothing new or refreshing in terms of the design. But it has been a very functional design so changing it would have made very less sense.

There are a couple of USB ports in the front. They are also accompanied by some media card readers. There is a gap for ventilation on the left side which should be good enough for cooling. At the back, you can find some more USB ports, the Ethernet port, VGA port and also the inputs for the keyboard and the mouse.

The Dell XPS X8700-2814BLK desktop computer is powered by an Intel core i7 4790HQ processor. This Haswell-based processor clocks at 3.6GHz which is a very impressive clocking speed. It gives you the power you need when tackling large applications.

The processor has the ability to run pretty much any application you throw at it. Right from simple day to day tasks to heavy simulation, this processor can handle. Being one of the best processors in the Haswell generation helps.

This model comes with a memory of 16GB. This is a very good memory and will give you a lot of freedom. You can run as many applications as you want and there will be hardly any lag in the performance.

There are also options to opt for 8GB or 12GB RAM. But we would advise against it. This memory is excellent for the price and there is no point in reducing the RAM for the sake of a price cut. However, you can still upgrade the existing memory to 32 gigs if you need to.

There is a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive. This has enough storage space and gives you a decent speed as well. You can load all of your stuff without any restriction. If you are a speed lover, then we suggest you to upgrade to an SSD which will just beat the crap out if this traditional hard drive. Otherwise, it a good bang for the buck

Windows 8.1 is the operating system here. You can easily upgrade to Windows 10 as you are a genuine user. With the latest improvements and new features, Windows 10 is getting a lot of positive reviews. This is something Windows 8 and 8.1 didn’t manage. So it should be worth an upgrade.

The graphics card in this Dell XPS X8700-2814BLK desktop is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 745. This GPU is made mainly for Dell machines. It has a 3dmark GPU score of 3120 which is very good. You can play pretty much any game with this GPU. Even games like Far cry 3, Battlefield Hardline and The Witcher 3 run well without any problems.

There are 6 USB 3.0 ports which are very fast for data transfer and also for pairing external devices. There are a number of media card readers which should be handy for a lot of people. There is also a DVD writer which does a good job.
