Dell XPS X8700-1863BLK Review – Neat Mid-Range PC!

Design

The design hasn’t changed from the previous XPS models. A glossy front, ports in the top front and a grill-like bottom are something we’ve seen for some quite some time. They have kept the same design and just played with hardware inside.

The good thing is that it won’t take up a lot of space. Be it your living room or your work room, the desktop will fit in nicely. At 27 pounds it shouldn’t be that hard to move it around. If it isn’t broken why fix it? This is exactly what Dell has done with this new desktop. We do agree with it, at least to some extent.

The desktop doesn’t come with a monitor. You’ll have to get one yourself and we suggest that you take a look at the monitor section and find a monitor that fits your criteria.

The desktop is powered by an Intel core i7 4790 processor. It comes with an 8MB cache and clocks up to 4GHz. This Haswell-based chip is one of the best in its generation and is among the top 3 processors in the market right now.

It runs any application you want to. The operation is smooth and there is hardly any lag. As the processor has an 8MB cache, handling big spreadsheets will be easy. This is very important from business perspective and this desktop handles it without a problem. The same can be said for any application and it isn’t an exaggeration.

There are 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAMs for memory. This decent memory is good for running multiple applications at the same time a.k.a. multi tasking. With Intel’s hyper threading in place, running multi threaded apps is now better in terms of performance and delivers very little or zero lag.

For storage you get a SATA hard drive with a capacity of 1TB. It comes with a rotational speed of 7200RPM which makes it a little better than the 5400RPM ones. You can play with the storage without any restriction as it is a lot for many users out there.

The hard drive also comes pre-installed with Windows 8.1 which is the latest from the house of Microsoft. Good news is that you can now upgrade to Windows 10 (next release) for free once it releases; Sweet deal from MS.

What’s Dell XPS X8700-1863BLK review without graphic cards? The GPU here is an Nvidia GeForce GT 720 with a dedicated memory of 1GB. This is a decent graphics card and is a pretty good choice. You can play most of the modern games without any problem. Even as a hardcore gamer, you will find this gaming performance impressive for this price.

There is a 19-in-1 media card reader which can come in very handy for many users. There is also a DVD writer if you still use DVD for the most part. For external connectivity and quick data transfer, the 4 USB ports should be sufficient.
