Design
The ASUS MG MG278Q carries a simple design language. It looks impressive but doesn’t have any over the top looks. The minimal design would fit in nicely in your gaming station or any gaming station for that fact. The bezels are not that big, and there are a few buttons on the side to adjust image quality.
The aluminum stand is a tough one that does an excellent job. It holds the display well and allows you to adjust the position of the display to match your needs. You can tilt the display, swivel it around for about 360 degrees, and also pivot the monitor and use it as a vertical display when required. There is also height adjustment that could come in handy as well.
You can find the ports at the back and are easy to reach. This a good looking monitor from any side and not many will have doubts about this once they see it in person.
ASUS MG MG278Q Specs and Features
This is a 27-inch monitor that comes with a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It has a TN panel beneath and is one of the best displays we have seen in the recent past. The picture quality is excellent for the price. Though this is a TN panel, the viewing angles are pretty good (170 degrees, both vertical and horizontal).
The monitor has a maximum brightness of 350cd/m2. This is pretty good, and it can get very bright even in a well-lit environment. With an excellent contrast ratio fo 1000:1, the monitor can display 16.7 million colors without any problem. The blacks are as deep as they can get, and the whites are bright as well.
Before we talk about any other specs, there are some features we should discuss to know how this gaming monitor fares.
The first thing is the response time. The ASUS MG MG278Q comes with a response time of 1ms, and that is excellent. When you are going after a gaming monitor, this is a very important figure. There are gaming monitors on the market with a response time of 2 or even 4ms. And that’s why this one beats them comprehensively.
The second thing we would like to talk about is the refresh rate. This display comes with a 144Hz refresh rate, and that is way better than the 60Hz refresh rate that you will observe in most displays. What this does is that it reduces motion blur and makes moving pictures lot smoother.
This is very important if you are a serious gamer. When playing online games, this will help you see the details better and could be the difference between winning and losing.
Another important feature is that the monitor supports AMD Free sync. If you have an AMD graphics card, then this sync will take things to the next level.
There are also other neat features like flicker-free technology and low blue light emission to make sure you can play for longer hours without doing a lot of damage to your eyes.
Are there any cons to it? Yes, but they are very minor. For one, this is not an IPS display. But you’ll hardly notice it, thanks to the superior picture quality.
There are a couple of HDMI ports, a DVI-D port, a display port 1.2 and also a USB 3.0 port. These ports should be enough for your connectivity needs.
ASUS MG MG278Q Review: Verdict
Overall, this ASUS MG MG278Q is an excellent gaming monitor for the price. It brings in some really good features like 144Hz, 1ms response time and AMD free sync. If you are a hardcore gamer who values the experience, this monitor deserves a place in your gaming station.
