Acer Aspire E3-111-C5GL 11.6-Inch Laptop Review

Review

Acer brings forth the Acer Aspire E3-111-C5GL 11.6-Inch Laptop, a super slim, lightweight notebook designed for those who need maximum portability all in a stylish package. Acer touts the all-new FlowCurve design, which gives this notebook a sleek, slender profile that is just 0.83 inches thick. The slim-line body has a distinctive upward curve at its rear and an elegant cool silver hairline-brushed finish. At just 2.84 lbs in weight, you can comfortably carry it around campus or on daily jaunts.

As you’d expect, the spec of this laptop is low-end, but will be fine for general computer tasks like surfing the net, word processing, social networking and light gaming. It has an Intel Celeron N2830 2.16 GHz Processor and 2 GB DDR3L SDRAM. Thanks to its fanless design, there is minimal noise emitted from the machine so you can work and play without irritation. In use, the machine is very cool due to its use of cool-running processing technology. The HDD is a 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive, so you have ample space for lots of media content and apps.

The 11.6" HD widescreen LED-backlit display features a standard 1366 x 768 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The display is matte coated so you don’t have the problem of screen reflections when using the notebook in brighter environments. The built-in webcam provides basic camera functionality for video conferencing and the like. Graphics are handled by an integrated Intel HD Graphics chipset which uses up to 64MB of dedicated system memory.

Despite its compact size, Acer has crammed in a great set of ports on this notebook so all connectivity is catered for. On the left side, there is a headphone out port, 1 USB 2.0 port plus a SD card reader. The bulk of the ports are located at the rear. Here you will find a Gigabit Ethernet port, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 USB 3.0 port and a HDMI port. Wireless options include 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.0.

Pros

- Slim, sleek and compact.
- Super quiet fan-less design.
- Precision touchpad makes operation easy and intuitive.
- Good quality sound via the built-in stereo speakers.
- Excellent connectivity options.

Cons

- Not suitable for processor intensive tasks or memory hungry apps.
- The battery is not removable without opening the casing, so carrying a spare battery on the go isn’t an option. You’ll have to take the power cord instead.
- Upgrades are awkward to carry out due to the internal design. We suggest you read this guide for reference. http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/acer-aspire-e3-111-disassembly
