Kota Sivarama Karanth memorial

Kota Shivarama Karantha is a popular Kannada writer and Yakshagana specialist. He was born in Kota village in 1902 and passed away in 1997, just 5 years short of century, when I was in Madhya Pradesh. Shivarama Karanth was the 3rd Kannada writer to win prestigious Jnanapeetha award, primarily for his novel- Mookajjiya Kanasugalu.

Recently a small memorial has been inaugurated in Kota town in the name of Shivarama Karanth. Located at about 1 km from Kota bus stand, Dr. Shivarama Karanth memorial was readied at an expense of about 2 crores. It houses an amphitheatre, a library, a small garden with statue of Dr Shivarama Karantha and few other facilities.

We paid a visit to this place last week. Some work was still in progress. Couple of photos of the venue for your reference.

If you’re passing through Kota town on NH17 (now NH 66), do make a point to visit this place. Take help from locals for directions. (Left turn near Hire devastanam while coming from Udupi side)
