Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156WH Review

Color is a matter of pesonal preference and, in general, it has nothing to do with the performance of the notebook. However the white colored Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156WH can add to the elegance and look of a more fashioned notebooks, similar on the lines of some of the Apple and the Sony Vaios.

Other than the color, the Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156WH is exactly the same as the Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156. Toshiba has priced the white colored Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156WH, $10 higher at $589 as compared to $579 of Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156. Does the $10 worth, just for the color. This is beyond the scope of the review of the starredreviews, but, looking at the price arrangements the white does seem to be in better demand. You may also like to check out the brown and the red colored Satellite with part numbers L655-S5156BN and L655-S5156RD. The brown and the Red parts are priced same as the default grey part at $579, suggesting the White color separates it out.

Key Specification at a glance

- Intel Pentium P6200 processor ( 2.13 GHz, dual core, 3 MB L3 Cache)
- 4 GB RAM
- 320GB Hard Disk Drive
- 15.6″ LCD Screen
- 2 USB 2.0 port, HDMI

Here are some detailed description of the individual components.

The Processor

The Pentium P6200, that powers the Satellite L655-S5156WH is dual processor at clocked at 2.13 GHz. The Pentium P6200 is based upon the Arrandale architecture, which means that it inherits exotic properties of the core i3 and core i5 processors. It has 3 MB of L3 Cache and has an integrated memory controller. The Pentium P6200, however, does not support hyperthreading. The processor is slightly stripped down version of the core i3 processor. You should still get some decent performance out of it, good enough for your home and office needs.

RAM and Hard Disk

The 4 GB DDR3 RAM in the Satellite L655-S5156WH should give you enough room for even larger programs. The Hard disk comes with 320 GB.

Display

The Satellite’s 15.6″ screen gives out bright screen with good quality display. It has 1366×768 resolution and the backlight is lit by LED. The Toshiba L655-S5156WH also comes with an external HDMI connector which you can use to display the contents of the notebook on an External LCD TV or a projector.

Connectivity and Other Feature

Besides the HDMI connector, the machine comes with wired and wireless connectivity features. It has 2 USB 2.0 port and a USB/eSata combo port. The webcam and the microphone is built into the LCD bezel at the top center. It does have a DVD writer that you can use to watch movie or burn DVDs.

Bottom Line

Toshiba Satellite L655-S5156WH has everything to make up a decent entry level machine for home and office computing. If you are looking for higher processing power you may like to take a look at some of the core i5 based machines. Even some of the core i3-370M ( or even better core i3-380M) based machines, that have slightly better performance should be available in around the same price. If you can get this machine in under $500 it should be a decent deal. Otherwise, you may have some other good optoins.
